The objective of this project is to develop, validate,
and intercalibrate a short-term test battery for the safety assessment of food contact paper and board.
The project, which is funded by the European Commission and a consortium of companies producing paper and
cardboard packaging for food, attends to the assessment of the risk of migrating toxic substances from
organic packaging material to the packaged food. The scientific results of the project will influence the
guidelines of the European Commission for the dealing with organic packaging material at a pre-normative
level.
Scientists from Finland, France, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Great Britain work on this project.
DIALOGIK, as a project partner, took over the task to analyse the necessity of communication regarding this topic and to make suggestions for an improved risk communication. In this connection, possible health risks will be explained, but at the same time the constructive contribution of the raw material paper for a sustainable development will be appreciated. Furthermore, DIALOGIK is responsible for the dissemination of the results and the support of the communication among the project partners as well as with the European Commission and the companies involved.
